tekstas kažkoks The addition of "grey" came about when, in the Romance languages, the sense of the word "amber" was extended to Baltic amber (fossil resin), as white or yellow amber (ambre jaune), from as early as the late 13th century. This fossilized resin became[when?] the dominant (and now exclusive) sense of "amber", leaving "ambergris" as the word for the whale secretion. palaeontological pharmacology Amber is particularly rich in terms of the diver- sity of accounts of its origins in myths, legends and folklore (Causey, 2011). The popularity of etymological study as an investigative tool encouraged some to place amber, ambergris and jet in one taxonomic basket. These substances not only shared a maritime origin, but in Italian in contrast to German, also a common name. This stemmed from the Arabic “anbar” and Italian sources discuss “ambra gialla” or “ambra citrina” when amber is meant, “ambra nera” when jet is intended and “ambra”, “ambracan” or “ambra grigia” when ambergris is the subject.
The two substances ("yellow amber" and "grey amber") conceivably became associated or confused because they both were found washed up on beaches. Ambergris is less dense than water and floats, whereas amber is too dense to float, though less dense than stone. The Lynx Stone (Lapis lincis or Lyncurium) was, according to Theophrastus (372- 287 BC), congealed urine from the lynx. Its yellowish colour has resulted in a number of suggestions as to its geological identity — amber, tourmaline, hyacinth and sapphire have all been proposed as candidates, but early modern accounts and 18th century materia medica collections indicate that, at least in some instances, it was represented by the guards of an extinct group of Mesozoic cephalopods, the BELEMNITES. For a long time, it's been hoped that some of the insects fed on dinosaur blood and that scientists would discover dinosaur DNA fragments in the insects' bodies. This idea provided the background for the creation of the dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park movie.
